Look at how a single candle,

can both defy and define the darkness.

Christina Etherington is an experimental cinematic artist, film theorist, scriptwriter, and an educator. Her journey through art and education began almost 17 years ago and has been evolving ever since.

Christina’s creative and artistic journey began in high school when she was accepted into the Creative Writing department at Douglas Anderson School of the Performing Arts in Jacksonville, FL. While here not only did she focus on poetry, she and several other students were chosen to take part in the Film & TV electives, and after her graudation it eventually became its own department due to the excellent work displayed by these students. Even though Christina was not able to major in Film & TV here, her love for the moving image was born.

After high school, in the fall of 2004, Christina was accepted into the limited access production program in World Cinema at the University of Central Florida in Orlando where she earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree. The program focused on documentary filmmaking and was scheduled to become a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree before her graduation, but due to unforeseen circumstances it did not. However, she still attended all the same classes as the other students and she excelled in the experimental cinematic art style. While in attendance, Christina also earned a minor in Creative Writing (poetry concentration) and the Initial Teaching Professional Preparation Certification in 6 – 12 grade Language Arts for Teaching Reading and Writing to Adolescents.

In the fall of 2008, Christina began her Master of Fine Arts degree in Filmmaking and Digital Technology at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. Her thesis focused on expanding Maya Deren’s film theory Creative Realism, as well as issues surrounding stereotypes and gender identification. Christina graduated top of her class and also earned a concentration in Scriptwriting. While in Pittsburgh, Christina was assistant director and producer on many projects from 2010 until 2015 for L76 Media Productions, owned by Laurie Smith. In 2013, they participated in the National 48 Hr Film competition and won best Cinematography for the short film Test 89

Christina has currently returned home to Florida and is now working in higher education teaching Digital Media Production at Santa Fe College, as well as developing her company EbbingFlow Productions.
